Alaskan Bush People’s Networth

Alaskan Bush People Net Worth

Alaskan Bush People on Discovery Show
alaskan-bush-people-net-worth

The Alaskan Bush People is a Reality Show following a large struggling Family of nine living off the land. Every episode goes out of the way portraying how poor the Brown Family is picking up odd jobs along with bartering for supplies just to survive in the Alaskan Bush. Is the Brown Family financially struggling as much as the Discovery Channel wants us to believe? And if not, what is Billy Brown Family’s current net worth?

Billy Bryan Brown and his wife Ami has a total of seven children all born and raised in the Alaskan Bush. Until about ten years ago Billy was a commercial fisherman running his boat the Family also called home. A simple life living off the land with few possessions, but living the American Dream having the entire State of Alaska as their backyard. The entire story of the Brown Family is fascinating to anyone who’s ever dreamed of that kind of outdoor lifestyle, including me. I’ve spent a good part of my life out in the bush, but the Brown Family seems to take it to a new level.

In this day and age, you still need some income or a high net worth to live this simple lifestyle, and the Brown’s are no exception. So how does Billy Brown support his large Family even though he retired from commercial fishing almost a decade ago? Did you know Billy Bryan Brown is an accomplished writer with over 70 books to his credit?

The first time I saw The Alaskan Bush People on the Discovery Channel the thing that “really” stood out was the Brown Family clothes. Anyone that’s spent any time in the outdoors knows you always dress appropriately, especially in Alaska. But the Bush Family seems to defy this logic wearing regular “street clothes” as if no one would notice.

Ratings and Reviews for the Alaskan Bush People

The Alaskan Bush People like wearing stylish “new clothes” that never get dirty even though they live in the woods for weeks at a time. I like the story behind the Alaskan Bush People, but this was the first clue the Brown’s have a higher net worth than being portrayed on their Reality Show. The more I researched the Alaskan Bush People’s Net Worth, the more their financial situation just didn’t add up.

Supposedly the Brown Kids ranging in ages from 12 to 32 years old, have lived in the Alaskan Bush their entire lives and never exposed to modern technology. No computers, no telephone, heck they didn’t even know what a microwave was during one of the episodes. And yet it didn’t take much effort finding Blogs and You-Tube accounts for some of the kids dating back over seven years. It makes for good reality TV, I guess, but please let’s keep it somewhat real.

When the Brown Family is not pretending to live in the Alaskan Bush full-time, Billy spends a lot of time writing books since retiring from commercial fishing. His first book was an autobiography published in 2006 titled “One Wave at a Time.” In 2008, Brown published his second autobiography “They Lost Years” and written over 70 other books and novels since that time. His story about raising a large Family in the Alaskan Bush is what eventually lead to making a deal with the Discovery Channel for this Reality Show.

Brown Family Goes To The City

According to Gabrial’s video posted in 2008, the Browns had a book tour across the country promoting “One Wave at a Time” and a movie deal in the works scheduled for 2009. Gabrial say’s it’s the first time out of the Bush seeing lot’s of things for the very first time. Gabriel then does a few imitations of Movie Stars he’s never seen before, because, we’ll, where are you going to watch Movies when you’re living off the grid your entire life?

Perhaps the most reviling fact the Brown Family’s net worth is considerably more than they pretend on The Alaskan Bush People can be found on the back cover of Billy’s first book, “One Wave at a Time” shown below.  Does this look like a Family that goes digging at the local dump scrounging for supplies to survive in Alaska? Apparently, a photo shoot promoting the book, but perhaps not the best picture portraying their rugged lifestyle surviving their entire lives in Alaska.

-Now A Major Collectible-
(updated current price over $700.00 for paperback book)

The “One Wave at a Time” book that eventually led to a Reality TV deal with the Discovery Show has been such a major success recreating the story; the Brown Family no longer has time selling books to add to their net worth at this stage. Imagine that, making and saving so much money living in the Alaskan Bush you don’t even have time making the easy money sending out books or instantly selling in e-book form.

The Brown Family has a website at alaskanwildernessbrownfamily.com that does promote a few of Billy’s books including “One Wave at a Time,” but currently unavailable until further notice. I can only imagine how many thousands of books the Brown Family would sell after every episode of Alaskan Bush People with 3 million viewers interested in their story. You can still buy a used copy of the paperback book on Amazon for only $69.00 (That’s not a misprint) that should tell someone in the Brown Family they’re leaving lots of money on the table neglecting this additional source of income.
Update: It appears $69.00 for One Wave At A Time would’ve been a great deal at the time. The current price for Billy Brown’s book has sky-rocketed over 1000% to over $700.00 in good condition.

As near as Richest Celebrities Networth can tell at this time, Billy Bryon Brown’s net worth is estimated at $500,000.00. All seven of Billy and Amie’s kids including Matt, Bam Bam, Bear, Gabe, Noah, Snowbird and the youngest daughter Rain are all financially compensated for each episode of Alaskan Bush People with an estimated net worth of approximately $40 to $60,000.00 each. Not too bad for a Family that barters for a wood stove so they can heat their home, or pays the Dentist with freshly caught fish.

The Brown Family no doubt has a fascinating story living in Alaska on their terms, but as with most Reality Shows, it’s sometimes far from reality.

If the Brown Family are worth this much money then why they collect Alaskan residence check? I think 3 or 4 family members dont live in Alaska full time and need to pay the money back.

Oh for goodness sake, we are entertained by the tv program so why not serously talk about something that has more concerns for the general public then the Browns net worth. We have much more serious issues here in united states then the Alaskan Bush Family. IsIs, Jobs, Hunger, its just my opinion but people with real issues like to watch shows like Discovery to excape real issues that affect our lives today the how many books billy Brown has written. If its True? I tip my hat to the Family for there success. And i think there is too many people out there that have way to much time on there hands and would rather start trouble instead of enjoying the Family and the good clean entertainment thats do hatd to find these days.

Excuse me? “We have much more serious issues here in united states then the Alaskan Bush Family. IsIs, Jobs, Hunger”? “Too many people out there that have way to much time on there hands and would rather start trouble”? Tell us, Sherri, does the fact that you are posting your little diatribe mean that you are one of those included in the “Too many people”? Does your posting here, mean that you have no interest in the “much more serious issues here in the United States”? And please explain to me why it is that you brand those of us Realists who post the truth about this show, “trouble makers”? But then when someone posts how wonderful this family is, they don’t match your criteria as “a trouble maker” who has too much time on their hands, but instead they have no time to comment because they are busy reading up on America’s current events? Is that what you’re saying Sherri? Because if you are, you are a hypocrite.

Of course they aren’t doing it for free. You can tell by the way they live they have money. Their guns are costly, some even camoclad and i saw the girls carrying one that had some pink camo. The kids are not dressed like most poor kids living off the land would dress. They have enough money to buy gas for the generator they run. No, Discovery might think us dumb but I have news for them.

I believe every Alaskan receives that check. I think it is royalties for oil drilling but not totally sure. There are just so many resources available from Alaska that all residents receive a cut.

Also, he did write 70b books but they did not get published. They are children's stories originally available on CDs but never got into book form

No way… This is a total misconception. There are quite a few baby boomers that made a very nice living, with high wage and extreme amount of time spent on the job. This was due to a huge demand for workers and tradesmen on various pipelines and surveying jobs in the 70’s and 80’s. Although the careers provide a substantial retirement, the royalties are only paid to those who either owned, or leased their property to the state during this demand. The state also purchased a lot of private land during this financial boom.

Every Alaskan that can prove residency for the prior year receives a percentage of the Permanent Fund Dividend. A baby born on December 31st at 11:59 can receive a check the following October. The amount of the check is based on the interest earned per barrel of oil from 5 years ago. The year that Sarah Palin was our governor we also got an energy rebate tacked on to our PFD. Each eligible Alaskan got over 3 thousand dollars. People are mistaken if they think the PFD happens more than once a year and unless you have a family of 15 or more, its definately not enough to live off of.

No. I am sorry. You are mistaken about that fact. I moved to Anchorage, Alaska from Austin, Texas on December 23, 1993. I lived there until June 30, 1996. After I had lived there at least one year as a resident, I started receiving State Dividend Checks (from the state oil revenue). They were usually between $800.00 – $1,200.00 once every year, up until I moved back to Texas. I had never had any connections with owning property or any oil business. Just wanted to clear that up.

Yes we all get a yearly dividend for being a resident of the state of Alaska for a year or longer.
It’s roughly been a lil over a $1000 and I’ve lived here since 2010. There are stipulations to this divided though if you are gone for more than 3-6 months out of the state it goes down and if you are incarcerated it is forfeited.

They get from 40 to 60,000.00 per episode per person. They are in the sixth season, the family combined has a net worth of over 10 million dollars. The reason they don’t buy new boats and things like that is the fact that this is a reality show, trying to show what it takes to live in the bush hence all the bartering.

you guys are something else…..this is a reality show that tho much may be staged…. does depict what life could be like living in the bush of alaska… she show does get the message across …. if there is a message, what one family can do if they use their imagination and are creative….living in the bush country of alaska no matter how you look at it, is not easy….as for the show….i have no fear that my children would be hearing and seeing a family that loves each other and have each others back covered physically and emotionally….cussing is at a minimum…and respect for others is obvious…
and my wife buys her cloths at a resale store even though our income is in the middle class range…if one looks carefully while shopping in these resale shops there are many new items available….and much that is nearly new….a little soap and water and a good spin dry and you’ve saved about ten dollars for a shirt or pants….don’t knock resale shops until you take a look what is available…..

When someone files for bankruptcy doesn't always mean their broke! Media portrays them as broke so people will buy magazines and other means of $ to make by saying hes broke! Bankruptcy is a strategy used to protect your money and a very smart move! Do a little reaserch before you make false accusations.

I don;'t believe it was 70 books either. but how ever many books he wrote, doesn't mean he sold many. and as far as payment for the shows, I hardly believe its as much as proclaimed. the show started with contracts for the whole family, lump sum. they are in such debt the will b lucky to pay it all off by end of 5 yr contract if the show lasts that long. ppl use your heads. this family cannot imitate such hard work unless they have been doing it a longs while. can u b such a marksman, lift almost a half a ton of logs, fix any engine, invent devices out of nothing, teach ur children chemistry and reading/writing etc…etc..and so much more. wake up and pay attention!

Looking closely, they don't apear to actually "fix any engine" – just standard tinkering; their "marksman" status is questionable- it has been reported that the guy who runs the Misty Lodge shot the deer for the camera; not impressed with the chemistry lesson about iron using "sticks and twigs", etc. And if the have been living this lifestyle so long, why are they so unsuccessful at it when others living in the bush would have managed a settled homestead years ago? I think they've spent some time outdoors, but most of this show smells fishier than Bill's boat.

That’s a great point. It also seems that the things they fix or make tend to mess up or break more often than not. You would think living their whole life in the bush they would have a better success rate with less mishaps. But it is entertaining, and they are out there trying I guess. It’s good family show nonetheless.

Billy may have written 70 books, but I highly doubt they sold..or were even published. However, they are getting paid for this show…while they are being portrayed as this poor family which is gaining people's sympathy. Many have come out and told how Billy scammed them through the years. At best, this family is grifters who lucked out with this show. It offends me that Discovery would air this lie and think people are stupid enough to believe it. Matt don't know what a cell phone is, yet there is a picture of him in Hoonah outside the Misty Bay Lodge smoking a cigarette while talking on a cell phone. When Billy is acting like the Integrity lost it's steering wheel hydraulics, there is a cell phone sitting on the counter in front of him! As for the boat Integrity…a boat that has not been out of port for 10 years they said. Yet when they lift it out of the water, there is not one barnacle on it! It's all lies. They slid this show in among the real Alaskan shows like Alaska, The Last Frontier and Life Below Zero….and thought nobody would notice Alaskan Bush People are fake. Truth is that land is leased by Discovery…the cabin and the Integrity are not in the Brown's name either. They are just rolling in the cash from this lie… Discovery really should have posted a disclaimer on the show stating this is based on a story written by Billy. But if they had did that…nobody would have watched it. It's all one big scam.

They need nothing but an axe and a shovel,a ration of a weeks food. then see how they would survive. Almost forgot a couple of black powder rifles and shot and powder.

For starters. The wood rot was hidden under layers of paint.. Secondly the area the rot was in was under that ledge that was crushed during the INSPECTION that your proclaiming should have been done with the Boat Lift.. So. Think before you just throw out ignorant statements. Everything has a process.

The person you are replying to is 100% correct. I wouldn’t give it a thought except I’m recovering from surgery and have nothing better to do at this time. The browns are entertainment only. Not real. I guess I’m responding to you and the person prior to you. Anyone can find rot in a boat. Even fiberglass, much less wood. There are some shows that are real like The Last Alaskan’s.

Sorry Phil.. experienced with boats implies you are knowledgeable about boats and you know the hidden areas where to look. Checking for rot is something not overlooked by anyone buying a wooden boat except by a fool.. stating it is hidden simply makes since only to those who do not know what to look for.

I totally agree. I’m from a family of 11 and my Dad and Mother, both worked. My Mother did more than make “May O” candles. We raised a garden and Mom canned. Putting up everything she could. We had cattle, chickens and turkeys. We had a few milk cows and some beef. We made our butter and churned butter milk. When we went to pick berries. We picked berries, not a cup full. My Dad was there beside us…working. He did not become I’ll or hurt, when it was time to work. He also, had his own business (timber contractor). He would work away, from home. Then come home late and help, on the farm My family was more like portrayed in, Alaska The Last Frontier. They are true, honest, hard working people. I think, more like, most larger family are and have to be, to survive. BTW, we had electricity, but no running water (well), out house and heated with a wood stove and yes, we knew, we had, to cut wood, most of the summer, to stay warm, in winter. Brown’s have no wood reserve.

They clearly are working their asses off for the show. Its tv! It's supposed to be for entertainment purposes. I can't pick up an move there but I can watch it from home. I wish them the best. I hope they all find someone to love and grow brown town. I would also love to see snow get vaneers an find a decent young man to be with. I think the shows so popular because we all wish we could create our own private place in the world away from typical grind we are bound to . I would jump at an opportunity like they have.

I’m glad there is still people out there that has money, yet still wants to live a simple family life. I wish I was more independent of the government. Why is everyone ragging on the Browns? The Kiltchers are very rich and they live on the homestead and hunt and raise animals and garden all for TV. I like the Browns and I can't wait until its back on but no they are not as poor as they seem. No one has as much bad luck as they do. But they are not as rich as Jewel's family.

We all know of 1 tv 1 hour show where the star, Mark Harmon, is paid $550,000.00 per episode. Sickening. And back in his heyday….although this is Vegas, Wayne Newton was paid $250,000.00 per week to perform nightly at whatever Casino. Gimme a break. We could all go on for hours here about this and that and he and she and HOW MUCH!! For my tv enjoyment, I'll take ABP any day over ANYBODY getting paid a ridiculous 550k per episode. And that's never enough. They always want more.

The only episode I've watched was when Gabe took a shot at a deer and missed. If you know anything about hunting using a rifle with a scope, you'll notice the protective lens covers were in the closed position while he was supposedly sighting through the scope. Later it shows the covers in the flipped up and open position. Since having them closed would make it impossible to see through the scope it's no wonder he missed. His acting skills made you believe it was a sincere effort. That's when I decided my first episode watched would also be my last. Enjoy another NON-reality show!

Do you will realize that part of the contract agreement to make the show probably forced them to bank most of the money . trying to keep them struggling as much as possible for the show, and were showing things are more typically done or has been done in the area . I am sure they were permitted to pull sum up front to buy the land they needed and then under emergency situations they were able to pull some of it. also a net worth of $500k is really not a lot. they add up the value of every little single thing you owned and the highest projected value of your property and potential earnings, then bank money so it really is not that much. People seem to think that it somehow means cash on hand and that is far from it. And even with a large sum of money that would go rather quickly with such a large family expecially planning on expanding. They're being smart and planning for their futures. The photo of them dressed up does not prove anything either. I am sure many people have to play dress up for holidays and family photos. Getting new second hand clothes is not unheard of either. Many things could be earregulars. And I never said they did not have any contact with the outside world. They've always said it has been limited. and they did not say they did not know what a microwave for us. That was just bears favorite contraption encounter. Never say that when, just was. I think the book issue has been addressed pointing out that 70 books written does not necessarily mean printed and/or many sold. There are many photos of the family from younger days outside of that old rugged cabin. People get acclimated to the weather and do not need to dress as warm rain during the summer months. Winters are off limits for the film crew so that is another reason we have not seen them all trapped up in the house together. Maybe they will address that later and leave them a camcorder? I am sure some things are totally set up as they are for reality shows. So they kind of let you know that it has been which I appreciate the honesty. But there are many other factors you cannot then they are real. There are things they're out there doing that they would not be able to if they did not have bush experience. and as far as and experienced fishermen missing the damage on the boat, that happens all too often and the rotted wood was not visible until it was dry. And it popped because of the stress. The same thing happened to my father who is very thorough experience captain. on larger vessels somethings times get overlooked especially by an overzealous fire. Appreciate the people want to keep looking into things but please do not jump to conclusions I think things out a little more logically before bashing anyone. I keep an open mind either way more recently after rewatching episodes I have begun looking for Easter eggs and the backdrop. Shadowy figure is moving between trees and birdlike objects just falling from trees? Quite interesting stuff going on. like to hear what you think about that?

I'm sorry, and I don't mean to be rude, HMPz you seem to be a nice, well intentioned individual albeit a bit naïve. You have to realize that a standard film crew consists of 12 to14 people on average. Not to mention they have script writers and suggested plot dialogue by the director. This in no way is reality. They are quite simply paid actors performing a sitcom based on Billy Brown's book about a family homesteading in Alaska. And not a very funny sitcom at that. I'm not saying don't watch it. It's your right to decide what you like. Just don't be quite so gullible as to believe something just because it's on television. It isn't a documentary.

I just watched a re-run episode where the Brown family were finishing building their house; and Gabe had to cut down the tree in front of it. That looked "kinda real" to me. So, if they weren't [really] trying to build themselves a home; what parent would put their son in THAT MUCH DANGER… Was that fake? How could you really fake those scenes. Or, is that what people want to see. I am terrified for those children, actually. My best friend who worked for the Dept. of Natural Resources (highly trained in tree removal; die when a tree cut him in half. Well, I hope this show really isn't a HYPE: because then we've all been DUPED. I really still believe in these people; and love all of their beautiful children.

Dear Deidre, My deepest sympathy for the loss of your friend. I'm a retired father of three and grandfather of ten. I began my life as a tree-topper and landscaper. Later I was a timber logger. I retired as a land developer and construction supervisor. Of the forty some people I employed over the years two were my sons and three were my grandsons. I'm happy to say none of whom were ever injured on the job. Felling trees is only dangerous if you don't plan and prevent accidents. I believe with proper safety procedures accidents can be prevented. Whatever you watched on your NONreality show was well planned to be executed safely in a dangerous appearing manner. For the record the Brown family lives in a lodge in Hoonah. Not far from a local bar where the oldest boy imbibed enough to get more than one DUI. If you really want to learn about them speak to some of the locals they like to smoke and drink with. By the way I believe only the youngest girl is a minor child. All the rest are adults up to age 32. And getting financially compensated quite well by the Network. Sorry.

Why so prejudice? What reality show is real. Every single show is contrived or 'instructed' in some way. I have not heard such hate for a fairly innocent family …I am intelligent enough to understand that there has to be a suspension of disbelief in order to enjoy science fiction and that on today's tv calendar heavily packed with' Reality Shows' I understand that the word Reality in that description is also to be taken with a grain of salt and also requires that same need to suspend a certain level of scrutiny . If you hate the show so much, don't watch it. There are plenty of us who enjoy the Browns and how they make a living. I HOPE Discovery is paying them and paying them well. Would you hang off a construction site tied to a rope only wearing a sleeveless t-shirt in the snow? Or did they fake Gabe's head on a stunt double's body. I'd say they are working hard and I hope that they are compensated

Dear Jessica B., For the most part I agree with your last post. ABP is a good clean family oriented program the whole family can watch. I have no problem with people finding it to be their favorite program. I agree it soars above Kardashians and the like. I just can't believe the immense number of gullible people who believe that just because it's called a reality show it must be gospel. In reality this family simply does not struggle to live in the bush. All the "dangerous" daily turmoil is created and written by Discovery staff. It's then proposed to the Brown family and the scene is set up by the director for filming. At which time a large crew of lighting, sound, and camera technicians go to work filming take after take until the director is happy with the performances of the Browns. Who by the way are compensated quite well for those performances. In this day and age far too many people believe a reality show is just that. When in fact most of them are anything but reality. There are few programs on television that are real. I don't even believe most of the news networks. Enjoy your shows, it is after all supposed to be entertainment. Just don't buy it hook, line and sinker.

Having worked in Television & Film for decades now, I know that each member of the cast gets "at least" $5,000. per episode. They have to belong to AFTRA (union) or SAG (union); and "IF" they are that broke, they either have a gambling or drug problem. The $5K per person, per episode is only the starting pay for a series. They have been on for awhile; and they more than likely are getting $20 K each per episode. The Dukes of Hazard cast got $50 K each per episode. There's also a rumor that Matt lives elsewhere, has a wife and Kid or kids. Remember, these are TV Entertainment Shows. I believe the word Entertainment is the most important word.

I just want to get one thing straight. I am an Alaskan, I am from Juneau. Those people lived in a state owned cabin and refused to move basically leeches on Alaskan society. Until the State of Alaska burned down their own cabin to get rid of the browns. I doubt he wrote 70 books, if he did they were pretty uninteresting since they were never on the NY Times best seller list.

Secondly, the Permanent Fund Dividend is a yearpy check that each and every eligible Alaskan gets. They vary from year to year, since many different economic extraneous thInga effect the value of the fund. It is not a goverment agency, as a matter of fact when we voted it in, we made a constitutional amendment that bars the Legislature from raiding the now multi-billion dollar fund. 1% of the profits from the investment of the oil royalties is divided amongst the 550,000 eligible Alaskan Residents. Transient commercial fisherman don't get the PFD monies sent out once a year, it was designed for Alaskans not people who come up during the summer to fish or work in one of the 5 canneries in the Juneau area. It wasnt designed for people that own a tourist T-Shirt shop in Juneau, but don't live year around. One other thing the oil royalties have done that was a good thing. We Alaskans also crrated what is called the Longevity Bonus Program. That was specifically directed at senior citizens that lived there when Alaska was a territory, each eligible senior citizen. They each hot $250.00 a month as a gift. There was a time in Southeast Alaska, when you had to preorder gallons of milk, dozens of eggs, butter etc, as most of those types of foods wouldnt be avaliable like they would have been in say a Safeway store. All that changed when Fred Meyer but a store by the airport. People from the surrounding villages would call a special number at Fred Meyer, and give them a shopping list and a credit card number a employee would then do the shopping and take the boxed food stuffs to the airport.

There have always been people like the browns, leech off society and then claim to have lived in the bush. I have been to Ketchikan when they were around there. The people of Ketchikan were happy to have the state burn down what was really a hunters cabin that the browns took over as their own. They were squatters, they didn't live solely in the bush, they have been exposed to technology, the sons aren't virgins. Except for one, but he has always thought he lived in the middle ages. The Browns are not how the Discovery Channel shows them. They didn't barter for that land they are on which by the way is outside of a small town called Hoonah, which is 60 miles from Juneau. When they do subsist, they don't eat just deer meat. They do infact have real groceries, and that cabin they built it wasn't bartered for either.

Alaska is a small place, people like the browns take what they want and give nothing back. They are truly leeches on Alaskan society and they take full advantage of any and every free money, or food, or anything else they don't have to pay for. I hate that show, only because I have seen them in action many times as an Alaskan myself, infact I'm a 3rd generation Alaskan. They are first generation losers. Yuk

I love this show, fake or not. But do suggest the production team use the services of a REAL survivalist to ensure the show comes off more true to living like that. And as for Bear, hunny no woman of any self respect is going to be attracted to a man with filthy hair and one who acts like a child playing make believe, even if it is for a TV show.

It's a refreshing change from the Kartrashians and all those trifling housewife shows! I figured they would be getting compensation from the show but how interesting would it be to tune in and watch the wife walk in to the dentists office and to easily have work done. Not very. I'm not stupid. I know reality shows are staged. If your offended because you feel the network took you for being stupid then maybe they're not to far off the mark. The show does what it sets out to do which is to be entertaining. I love love love this show and this family. I am truly one of the poor and I have to say the with the exceptions of pedofelia or murder, there isn't much they could do to offend or anger me

If they are worth that much, they spent it all on that piece of land they are on. The land out there is not cheap, plus they had to buy boats and build a log cabin. The money is gone. And if they are making anything after that the parents are saving it for their kids future.

I stumbled on this show while on vacation, back to back episodes all day. How can anyone say it isn't funny? The extensive immaculate wardrobes of these "primitive" people could NEVER have fit into that SUV and little trailer. Survival with water a long drive away means NOT washing your hair every day! No one in their right (survival mode) mind builds a huge bonfire to cook on. Any true bush person would have built a latrine first – 5 acres is too small for nine people to be randomly defecating. And so on and so on. City folks might believe in this but anyone who has spent a week in the bush would spot the total fiction very quickly.
I agree, however, that the scenery is stunning and the story somewhat entertaining.

Life is tough and dangerous these days. Hope they remain living in Alaska. Hope one day me and my husband can visit them in Alaska in brown town. We are older and have seen it all. I commend this family for caring for each other the way they do. And a gold star and 3 big cheers for their wonderful parents, billy and Ami. Be safe and gods blessings to the whole family.

Hmm….so, 'IF' the 'Discovery Channel', 'leased' that land, just for the show, then 'what' will happen to the Brown family come the day the show 'ends', for good? And 'IF', professionals were brought in and built that house, 'who' gets the house once the lease is up and the show is done for good (some day)? And 'IF' it wasn't 'the Browns' who built that house, then 'where is' the dwelling that the show filmed them building? Net worth $500k? Umm….'I' would think they are worth a whole helluva lot more than that….because of 'the show' AND 'other things'. But of course, I could likely be very very wrong. BECAUSE….I do NOT profess to 'know', not with any certainty whatsoever, a damned thing about a damned thing. Speculation<–

One episode had Noah in his outdoor workshop using all kinds of brand new tools. They have to be receiving some sort of income.
The other episode I thought was entertaining was when Noah was briefly dating that girl who looked 14yo, and his mother starts mentioning babies and grand kids around the girl. Its no wonder the girl decided not to be bothered with him anymore. Heres a clue Mom……Don't start talking about kids and grand babies around your sons girlfriends or your sons will be spanking it till their in their 60's with no girlfriends

It's still an entertaining show. And I'm sure that they couldn't build and make things like they do is they had not lived in the bush for at least some of their lives. And who cares who's a virgin on the show. That's none of our business anyway. I'm sure they are taking in some dough as all reality show people do, and people send them technology and all sorts of gifts including tools. Especially if the people that like this show feel for their situation if it's a lie or not, it's still a good family show and shows how family sticks together if anything get that's not something you see on other crap reality shows.

A half million, to a family of nine, at today's prices, is not that much. Who cares anyway? The show is entertainment. It could be worse. Could be Naked and Afraid, or some similar garbage. Personally, I have seen nothing that claims the show is completely real or honest. I watch it until one of the boys goes on a date. Real or imaginary, that is too painfully stupid to watch. But like another responder said, there is a channel selector on my remote that I can use if I don't like it. Probably one on yours, too.

Everything you see on this TV show is provided for by DC show, the land is not owned or bought, but leased by Discovery, the home was paid for and built by DC, and two locals there built the house, (NOT the Brown family) also everything there on that island is merely a prop for the show, the Brown's do not live or sleep there, they are reported to be staying in town a 20 min. boat ride away at some lodge, or hotel there along with the crew and paid for by DC?? so nothing is as it seems on the show and the Brown's are banking money big time as they don't have to pay for anything, not even that boat I am sure??

My questions is if the show is so bad and unrealistic why are you still watching and then researching them. Change to CNN or Fox if you want a reality show with no errors in it. "Well educated people who used words that only knew if you lived in the modern world"..are you actually serious? I don't even know where to start with you. I live in the far northern reaches of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, which isn't that different from where the Browns live. Living in the bush doesn't mean you have a limited vocabulary, OK? Billy and Ami are from Texas. They didn't grow up in a cave being raised by wolves. One can expand one's vocabulary by READING. As far as having "too much knowledge that doesn't come from the bush": Ever heard of self reliance? Billy moved up there over 30 years ago as an adult, and I think it's safe to assume he learned a thing or two prior to moving there. Knowledge can be gained from many different sources and is not exclusive to living in the "modern world". I think it is also safe to assume he and Ami have taken the time to teach their kids the skills needed to survive in that environment. They DO come into contact with other people…you're looking for holes in their story that aren't there. In environments like the one they live in and the one I live in (rural, somewhat isolated), you will find incredibly resourceful people, people who are self reliant almost to a fault, people who are highly skilled when it comes to working with what you have. The Browns are far from the only people living the way they do. "Too much knowledge that doesn't come from the bush"?? The people living in the bush are some of the most intelligent, most resourceful, most capable people you will ever meet. You're a funny guy. As if people living that lifestyle can't be educated. Know who struggles and usually ends up dying in the bush? Idiots from the cities who can't process a rational, logical thought without Google and a cell phone. Educate yourself on things before you speak on them. That way you won't end up sounding like a complete jackass.

Don't you think they should be well compensated? They work damn hard for their money! Back in the seventies Suzanne Somers quit Three's Company simply because she was only getting $30,000 a show. I say they don't get paid enough based on with some other people make. And they do teach wholesome family values that most of the families in this country today no nothing about. Kind of a "pot calling the kettle" moment here. I think you are suggesting to Flad that he read his own comment and judge his mental capacity based on his ability to spell. If you had read his words, (and followed your own advice) you may have noticed that his spelling is correct. His ability to form sentence structure is clearly faulty, but he did spell his fractured, incoherent rambling with 100% accuracy. Consider that the next time you are laughing out loud out.

So Bill took his youngest daughter to the dentist and pretended that he can't read or fill out the forms, yet he wrote a book? Seriously? They claim that all their children were born in the bush, yet they all know how to operate electronics on the boat, they all know how to weld and use heavy machinery, they know how to drive a car and a boat. I wonder who gave them a driver's license in the bush. So none of them went to school, right? Even home schooling requires correspondence and 10 grades of school are required by law….so no school and no social services? If they have no money how do they pay for their tools, guns, clothes, shoes, jewelry, books and especially the boat? Where do the girls get their makeup? I would love to see an episode on how they do their laundry in the woods for 9 people without a washing machine, especially since they always wear pretty decent and clean clothes…Their clothes don't have a single hole in them….and are they really trying to say that none of the grown children have relationships with people outside of their family? Yaiks! That's actually a pretty scary idea….This show is such a scam.

In reality folks, I think the Brown's are somewhat of a Brady bunch. You never know what kind of a incidental accident they dream up. Let's take a look at the Kilcher family. They had substantial net worth's before being on national TV. Do you not think that the Browns have the same? As for entertainment, the Browns are at a near stalemate. Are they willing to show actual family location? Do you really know where most actors live? Most actors live a somewhat private life off screen. I know I wouldn't want every Tom, Dick and Harry snooping around my home. For me, to be in the light of fame, I would want a very remote island to live on. Publicity is one thing, Privacy is another!

Thank you, 'Anonymous'! I could not have stated it better myself. So many haters of these people out there. So-called Alaskan residents who are offended at how they are being portrayed. Give me a break. This show doesn't reflect negatively on Alaska or Alaskans. It's entertainment. Do you morons feel the same way about the Deadliest Catch? Are those people frauds, too? I've never seen so much fabricated drama in my life. It's fishing for Christ's sake. It's because they have to. Keith said as much. If they didn't give the audience a reason to watch, ie drama, then they wouldn't be part of the show.

In my opinion, these people are interesting, particularly Billy. That is what's worth watching it for. No one is watching it to see how every Alaskan is and lives. We all know he's originally from Texas and has been in Alaska for only half of his life. He still has his Texas drawl. He and the show are open about his story. Get off his and their backs. If you don't like it don't watch it. Jealousy is such an ugly quality.

If it's real or not, doesn't matter to me, I just like the family. Yeah, there are some discrepancies, so what? I catch them all the time on other shows as well, one of my favorite hobbies. And hopefully, they are getting paid.
Other Alaskan shows are fake as well, the Kiltchers are very wealthy! and live 8 miles from Homer, the show, Life Below Zero portrays people living very solitary lives, which is a joke! So, take it for what it's worth, Alaska is the new Hollywood! Soon enough it will fade into the snow….

LEAVE THEM ALONE! Anyone who watches the Brown's can actually LEARN something about life and how to survive! I WISH I could meet them in Brown Town or even stay with them for some time because you learn to live and learnnnnn to use what you have and make do. They don't waste ANYTHING whereas WE do. And its very nice to see how close their family is and how much they work TOGETHER! Yes, they bicker and have their moments, but don't you? They have a bond that is unlike anything I've seen. They made it in the bush for a long time. Fake or not, can you do half of what they Do? Can you and your children build a house, chop down your own trees, search for food sources, hunt for hours in pouring ice cold rain or snow just to feed your children? Could you live without texting or tweeting or precious Facebook? Could you live? I admire the strength of the whole family unit and their optimism 24/7. Give them a break. My fiance and I would do anything to meet them. They are good hearted people and know wayyyyyyy more than people give them credit for. Taxes, money, fruad, who cares. Who doesn't lie or try to make life better for their children. Just stop. You try doing what they do for a week. Most would fail. They have the best place to live, the most freedom, and guess what they also have??? HAPPINESS AND LOVE all of the time. I'm proud of them. I can only hope I have a family as strong as the Brown's. Their will is outstanding. I wish nothing but the best for them, despite the BS constantly circling them.

Good luck, Browns! Maybe one day we can meet you all!

(especially around boats )…I watch it because it's like watching a train crash….I watch new comer's make similar mistakes every year…sometimes losing their lives because of it ….good thing they have a well appointed camera crew to watch over them…they have taken over a beautiful piece of wilderness and turned it into a junk heap…come on, a shrink wrap hovel?….anyone who lives here knows how much moisture is in the soil …that enclosure would rain more on the inside than the outside….digging a hole for shelter/…the water table is rarely a foot or two under the surface….and if its a hole then it will fill on the next rain…these are simple things that someone that lives in the bush should know….does everyone called "Bear" (Bear Gryllis …Bear Brown')…run around full speed doing things you should never do in the bush…running ,climbing and putting himself and others at risk…these are the things that put people in jeopardy and have little place when you are so far from immediate help….when you run you sweat, when you roll you can puncture, when you climb its only a matter of time before you grab the wrong branch….one of the first things you learn here is to stay dry (it can save your life)…you don't go and jump off the boat over your boots….many of their solutions are sophomoric at best …they are more like a bunch stoners in the woods that can act like asses and have DC bail them out or make their mistakes seem like honest drama….Still I watch…it's my back yard and I like to know who's pissing in or on it…..at least some of the other "Alaska " shows have characters that actually know what they are doing and show that we Alaskans aren't a bunch of blundering fools running around in the woods giving watchers bad and backwards solutions to everyday bush problems ….making like staying wet, overloading boats, not watching tide or using an outhaul line, dropping a crab pot line too deep (which will continue to fish and kill generations of crab for no reason) , hitting a break water and blaming a deadhead, dragging trash out into the woods are NOT good examples the proper and safe way we do things around here in SE Alaska……hopefully few will imitate some of what we see as it could probably get someone hurt or killed…..DC check your pop -ups several are just plain wrong….Still I watch these screw-ups for the same reason I read Peanuts in the paper every day….to confirm that the strip isn't funny and hasn't been for years… talk about tired re-runs….

I'd love to keep enjoying this show if they wouldn't make so many mistakes.
In the first couple episodes of Season 3, Ami (sick in bed at the remote cabin) asks Billy to get her something from the kitchen. We then clearly see Billy walk past a gas kitchen stove.
I thought there were no gas lines out there, hundreds of miles in the bush? Or is it propane, and the Brown's take their boat dozens of miles to get small propane tanks refilled to fuel it? Why isn't it a wood burning kitchen stove? I hate to be 'shocked out of the story'.

you people are pathetic, "its a insult to Alaskans", "they are a fraud", "nothing on tv is real" give me a break, they are not an insult to Alaskans, everyone is different and everyone makes mistakes, but that doesn't mean that its an insult to the people of the region, its just an insult to the people who committed that mistake, I don't think people are looking at Alaskans and saying "all Alaskans are committing fraud" or "Alaskans can't be trusted", not everything on tv is fake. All of you need to get real, I'm pretty sure none of you are perfect, everyone lies and steals in some point of their lives, whether it be as a child or as an adult out of desperation. You all spreading hate every which way claiming these things are the real fakes, just making these accusation and proclaiming how much fault they have are the fake ones. Be real and keep it real.

Julia when they say DC they mean discovery channel, not Washington DC. but back to the subject, most of the things on the show are real, just more exaggerated, and there are something that they don't show, but that's just tv sensationalism, there is no way DC would pay for the land, boats, gear, building and supply costs, just for a show that may not make them profit after the costs and payment to the few people of the camera crew, editors, narrator, management, and the brown family.

let alone how much they have paid to get two parcels of land in different areas, the gas for their boats, the boats, and building materials. it definantly not a lot, especially after you include property taxes and medical bills into the mix, Ami getting her teeth fixed, billy going through a coma or 2, not shown on tv, and ami going to the hospital.

I join those who say THANK YOU to both these Anonymous posters,, each of your comments are dead on target and I also ask these who want to take time to post their negative thoughts,, IF you don't like the show why in heavens sake do you watch? It's obvious you're watching every week or you wouldn't be aware of these "issues" you nay sayers are are referring to. We watch because we envy how the family stay together, how they deal with existing as a family and don't look for clues they're deceiving we viewers. Discovery Channel has zero'd in on wholesome, decent and good entertainment and we look forward to every episode of each DC "reality" program. Good and wholesome television is something the major networks have dropped from their lineup a very long time ago. I can't think of many programs they put on television worth my time. I say good on you Discovery Channel, Animal planet and those channels who share decent TV.

Actually if you recall, they took the stove when they dismantled the building for cash and salvage. They took part of the cupboards, the sink, etc. They stove either doesn't work or Noah rigged it to use propane.

I enjoy watching the show even though I may think some is fake but their heart is in it. They work hard they play hard and it's a break from all this other crap that's on TV. Power to the Browns for making a living. So if you don't like it don't watch it if you like it then watch it and enjoy.

Why would Discovery Channel allow the footage of the one called Bear pummeling a salmon with his fists to kill it ? There are a number of " HUMANE" ways to bring the life of a fish to an end, filming an idiot punching one to death certainly is not on that list. I think the fish deserves better and the viewing public should expect more from a channel that calls itself DISCOVERY.

I was raised around Amish my whole life(52 yrs) and never ever once saw or heard about an Amish mafia! I don't like ppl miss representing the Amish and the Amish way of life, we all know these shows would be boring if there wasn't drama and trauma! Who would watch boring ppl sitting in the woods eating bugs and weeds when they couldn't find proper protein? We all know these ppl are to fat to be living just off the land, believe me I know what I'm talking about, clothes to clean, ppl to clean! But I watch it for entertainment and it beats the hell out of watching the kardashians!

In one episode Mom rebuilds the out house and another they build a mobile sauna? Just what you need in Alaska! Do us a all a favor and never watch it again and above all don't comment any more. I just want to say a few things about The Alaskan Bush People. I have read and reread the majority of the responses, I truly enjoyed reading both of the Anonymous responses dated November 19, 2015 and the response from Daduce 1947 dated November 20, 2015. I also watch the program faithfully every Friday evening and any other time its on TV. I also believe these people are dead on target as to how the Browns are. I also agree if you watch it every week, you must like the program. You can't love it one minute and hate it the next minute. I believe the Brown family is truly portraying themselves accurately. They have been given their "stipend checks" because they live in Alaska. I have read several articles that say the "………people who live in Alaska each receive their checks 1 time a year". I don't know how accurate this statement was but I believed that, wouldn't you?

Well we buy into the unrealistic life to escape our own lives, thus its the reality TV that draws the public and unfortunately we can't believe any of the shows that claim "reality". We challenge ourselves by our escapism and unrealistic life that draws us into an altered realty.

Like all these types of shows, we watch so we can see what parts of this world we have not been able to see ourselves are like. The shows are all the same and they do add to the drama and make them fake. That is what a writer does. This is part of what entertainment has come for us, mix science with some fiction and this is what we seem to like to watch. The show Alaska the last frontier always makes us feel like they are alone in the bush with no help so they have to come up with ideas to survive, I drive 22 miles a day to work which is further than the 12 miles they would have to drive to the Napa store in Homer Alaska to get their parts for their equipment or stop at the grocery store to replenish their food supply. I don't take it personally and still watch the show and will continue to watch them in the future. I do hope that the DC does not shut the show down because of the incident but I do believe steeling from the people of Alaska needs to be punished and should offer some true reality to add to the show that we all can believe in. it would be refreshing to see the rest of the pack have to survive without the old man around to give them instructions, I would like to see the brothers actually settle some arguments like real brothers do.

The stupidest thing ever done on the show by this stupid family was cutting down a large tree, struggling to get sections of the tree to the beach, towing the parts of the tree 60 miles, so that a man with a chain saw and aluminum ladder jigs could cut up the tree into boards.
It must not have occurred to the Browns to have the chain saw come to them. What fools!
Each episode is more stupid than the previous one.

I like the show, But my favorite genre in TV is the outdoors and survival type stuff. So keep on keeping on Browns and get your legal troubles out of the way. Other TV personalities have been in trouble and served their time. Dog the Bounty Hunter was convicted of murder or accressory to murder. Micheal Vick, Mike Tyson and so on. I know its not real but I dont care. The show affors me the opportunity to see the beautiful Alaskan scenery from home in Texas

I'm as entertained by everyones comments as the show. I also agree with parts of nearly everyones comments. Simply put I watch the show for entertainment. I don't really care if its real or not. Certainly the effort to bring the tree to the saw vs bringing the saw to the tree is rediculous but far less amusing. Honestly, I thought they were going to a sawmill not a saw and jig. I laughed my ass off when I saw that; excuse me I guess 'seen' is proper grammar now.

What is most amusing is in fact the constant stupidity. What calamity is going to befall the Brown-Clowns next? Bear punching-out fish or swinging in trees and ctawling in mud like a child borders 3-Stooges slapstick and should be taken as such. A family that portray themselves as having a collective IQ of a moron would certainly perish in the Alaskan wilderness if they really were. This is what is entertaining. Perhaps it should have been "Wilderness Clowns".

I read about it every year. Take your time, don't fly because of a schedule, wait for the weather. Motorcyclists beware and don't push it. Get rest. Our roads are tough. Have fun but be careful. The Brown's are not eligible to receive government substitutes or any other "dividends" that Alaskan residents receive because they are not legally residents in that State. I have now been thinking about it for a week or so, and, I really do like these people, and I will continue to watch, I guess. (At first after learning all the junk, I said to myself I would not ever watch again, I was so sad it was so much fakery) But as I said above, I think I am going to continue to watch because I like the cast and I like the stories. WHAT???? Would I stop watching NCIS or Law and Order because they are scripted shows? I think the Browns show is well worth watching. I like the show, it's funny but not real at all. Who builds a house in Alaska with no heat? At least a fireplace, maybe a wood stove made from a barrel. They can make a bush clothes dryer, but not a stove. How about the tin roof put on upside down. You put in on from the bottom up so the water runs over not under. That roof would leak like a sieve, plus they left 2' of wood exposed at the bottom. Shall I go on… They do make me laugh though.

Thank you for your clear writing as well as real facts posted by James Young, as to how things cannot possibly be as they seem in this TV show. Once people are on TV, they become "celebrities" and liked regardless of what they do. If not giving back to society and just taking what you can is admirable and the fantasy of some, then this TV show fulfills that need for people to watch how it can be done. Even without living in Alaska, talking to the locals or watching some of the Brown boys in action there, I guessed some of the things you said was happening (as would most intelligent people).Ignore the ridiculous replies that you might get to your post. Obviously you are pretty intelligent from reading your post, so you would never be jealous of people who take from society and never give back.

I like the show.with that being said there are to many things pointing to fake. On one episode they were talking about texts messaging. One "didnt" know what they were but two others did.
If they have really lived together their whole lives I think he would've known by then.

But also tame into account another show when looking at the money made from the show. In streetoutlaws daddy dave built a car for over $300,000 dollars. Then wrecked and built another car (basically the same car) in a few months. This was after he drove a truck that wasn't his because he couldnt afford one. Hmmm.
Then big cheif wreck his car, that took his "entire" lifes savings, and he built another car in the time it takes to build it.
He even said his first one(on the show called "the crow") took him two years to build because of the money it takes. Hmmm.

Someone on here said that the browns used the money for the show and they need to make some to pay for the show.
No discovery channel pays for the show not the browns.
Also when they "go to town" the people at the shops act like their weird because the way they act. Wouldnt those people be used to the browns coming there if they have lived there their whole lives.
like I said I like the show. But like you said "reality" should be more real.

One of the most inept group of people I've ever seen. There is no such thing as "reality TV show". They are all scripted to one degree or another and then edited to achieve a predetermined goal or look. This being said, I do not believe that anyone has a right to judge a person because they like the show or the family.
The bottom line is that it would not be on TV if Discovery Channel was not making a profit. (just one man's opinion)

It's entertainment folks. The Brown family on this show are decent folks, they are not hurting anyone and at least they aren't drinking, or doing drugs, or acting like idiots that are portrayed on a lot of these other so called reality shows. Billy parents were affluent Texans and until their passing Billy led a normal life as a child and teen. Of course it is not all true it's a show and pert of that is to do things to create drama and a reason to keep tuning in. If you don't like the show please change the channel. As a father of 2 daughters 19 and 20yrs old there are a lot worse shows my kids could watch and be influenced by. We should congratulate the Browns for selling the idea to DC they are obviously more intelligent than most give them credit for being!!! I find watching this show as a way to relax and take my mind off all of the atrocities happening in the world today. People need to take it for what it is and these folks aren't hurting anyone people are so quick to judge everyone else for their indiscretions yet fail to see their own!! There are so many shows out there that depict lifestyles that are morally appalling. Let's think about "Teen Mom" and how it glorifies teen pregnancy, or the whole Bruce Jenner praised for being transgender. The Browns are far more wholesome to watch than 90% of the shows out there that glorify such questionable behaviors leave them alone and some of you out there might want to tune in with your children and let them see that there are people out there that are happy with just spending time with family without the distractions of electonics and that it's OK to to be just a loving wholesome family with parents who are still married after 30 plus years and it might shock some kids that watch to realize your parents should be respected and admired and cherished not used as a walking credit card. OK I am stepping down from my soap box now. I hope DC renews them for a few more years we need more morally balanced shows in this world!!

I think the show is great. Good for them if they are making money, they should, they're a cute devoted family and they give a good family show. They have nice kids, smart, creative, well adjusted, funny, free spirited, adventurous and healthy. Don't we want that all for our kids. Mom and Dad are still in love, and teaching their clan properly. No one is perfect, but they are doing a lot of right things. A show for the whole family. I hope they make lots of money, instead of some of the crazy garbage from Hollywood. Go Browntown!

My observations: The Browns house has 120 volt electric outlets & electric light switches, how did they get the aceteline torch, wood planking, ammo, diesel fuel, gasoline, how do they charge their electric tools, In my opinion, they are phonies. Everything they do is a crisis, from docking the boat to cutting down a tree. Watch "Life Below Zero" if you want to see some REAL Bush People.

As I said earlier, I like the show but some things are just face palm worthy. Like every time the guys bring a girl home, Ami brings up babies immediately. These guys have absolutely nothing to offer these girls and she really thinks these girls are going to give her "grand babies" as she calls them. Yeah I dont have a job so I can't provide for you, I live in a tire house, have no education but let's have kids and I'll add a few more tires for their room. Lol

Then you have their good points. Their work ethic is something that many can learn from and they truly have earned everything they have. Family is everything to them and they always look out for each other. All they have to do is get Bear to stop being an idiot around the women and get Matt to just stop being a dork period and they might have a chance in the real world. Oh and Noah needs to drop the holier than thou crap. Is he smart, yes does he come up with great things for the family, yes but that does not mean he needs to talk down to the others like he does sometimes. One day in town he will meet his match and get a big piece of humble pie and again it won't be shown on tv. That's all for now.

I've often wondered about the kids and how none of them look like each other. You can see some resemblance with some when you look at the parents, especially Rain. I have also wondered about how Billy can be so overweight. Another thing that I've questioned is Noah's outfits. One episode he was wearing leather boots that are sold at Ren Fairs and cost at least $200+. His outfits look rather pricey for living in the bush. I do think they built their house, we saw them in action making it. I do question too about how Noah knows so much. I have also wondered how they could afford a car, 2 boats, the land and all of the supplies to make a house. It may not be 100% real and there are lots of inconsistencies, but it's entertaining and my mom and I watch it religiously. If you don't like it, CHANGE THE CHANNEL AND WATCH SONETHING ELSE THAT ISNT REAL. Nothing on TV is REAL!

The post that mentioned SAG, etc., is the most on point regarding their wealth. I learned in an entertainment law class at Los Angeles law school that anyone on any series, reality or not, that speaks at least three lines is eligible to join the actors union, and must be paid, either way, the unions minimum for air time. The money can be refused or donated. Anyone that goes on a talk show like the Tonight Show, gets a minimum wage check…some sign a waiver and refuse it. Take Survivor, the goal really isn't to be the last and win, that's the show. The goal is to just last as many weeks on the show as possible, because with every show, each week, you get paid. All Brown members get paid very well, unless they waived payment, because they have to paid by law (actually a collective bargaining entertainment agreement.). I'm sure Brad Pitt must waive his Tonight Show required check, but I doubt the Browns do, that would be silly.

And that if they truly lived in the forest for years and years they would have way more common knowledge and sense. I was raised in the country I know about preserving food and preparing for winter how deep you must dig a outhouse, cooking and heating with wood, and what they do is
    down right appalling

I also agree if they lived in the bush all their life, they have pretty nice clothing for it. If you take notice some of the things they have lying around you would not think one would have by scrounging about in a dump. another thing I don't understand is on the episode where the family comes home to find a bear had ran sacked their home, if you lived in the bush as long as you claimed you have why did you not bear proof you house before you left. You live where the bears have one of the highest population so why would you not bear proof your house. I'm sorry I just have a hard time believing their story.

I just started watching last week. Starting with Season 1. Then I found out about the discrepancies. For those who scream "FAKE" you are hippocrates. Most of you watch FAKE TV every day when you watch main stream media NEWS! Yes, the news is FAKE. You are only being told what you want to hear. Not the truth. The Monkees were fake. The Brady Bunch was fake. ALL TV shows are FAKE. We have FAKE government. What more can I say. So get over it and enjoy the show or don't watch. You do have the choice to turn it off. These other reality shows like the Kardashians and silly shows about people's lives that nobody but themselves care about. They said that they go to thrift stores for their clothes. I believe that. I see nothing wrong with this show. If you don't like it then don't watch it. It's that simple. People who hate on this family know absolutely nothing about their lives so leave them alone please. I would love to meet the Browns and spend time with them. Their vocabulary is great because Ami educated her kids. You can learn anything that you put your mind too. Please leave them alone.

I've been to Hoonah twice (a great little SE town) and have family that has property there and hunts there each Fall. The show is great, but is as fake as fake can be. There is no "Brown Town". It is a TV set. The family does not stay in the "cabin". They stay at the lodge in Hoonah. I've got a great photo of my family member there in front of the Integrity at the Hoonah Harbor taken this past September, at the point in the year in SE Alaska where everyone is trying to get meat and prepare for Winter. The locals told him that the family had been gone for several weeks after having flown down to Seattle for a vacation.

Enjoy the show for what is is (for better or worse) and stop the bickering.

Like the Alaskan Frontier, the Bush family should put a bed of nails on a board and nail it in front of the window or on the steps so the bears will not enter the house. To catch a chicken, use no. 9 wire and about 4 foot long and bend the end to form a hoop to snag the chickens leg instead of chasing them for an hour to catch them. And if they are scientifically inclined, they could set up an electric fence to stave off the bears from their house and surroundings.

I think its a shame for this family to pretend to live in poverty and worse for Discovery Chanel to make millions too off of nothing but a lie. How much labor can possibly go into an hour TV show? I wonder how much they paid to get the house finished while they are out spending their millions. Then to try to steal from the state they claim to love….when they definitely don't need the money. Who Does that? Not the kind of people that our kids and young adults need to be on TV setting an example. It doesn't matter what this family does on TV…..they are lying in every single episode about being poor. They have more money than most Americans will ever earn in a lifetime from hard honest work. The Brown's don't want to work. They are not only liars. They are lazy. No thanks. I'm so disappointed in Discovery Chanel. This whole show is a scam. I wish I was worth a 1/2 million. I would rather be poor than lie to the American public

The Browns are a family (unrefutable) who decided to reveal a glimpse of their lives…and living has many parts to it…at times refined and pulled together, and other times messy, goofy, funny, serious, painful, loving, kind, bad, good, imagined, real, sticky, tenuous, stupid, smart, and resourceful such as deciding to give us a glimpse of themselves on the DC show. The show gives us snapsots nothing else. Some people are over thinking. Guard your minds and hearts from cynicism and the resulting critical commentary (if you must be jaded save it for world events). Instead, relax, enjoy the snapshot of the Brown family's lives (real, part real, messy or not), their personalities, and the DC show while you can. Nothing lasts forever.

People must realize this is a show and nothing more. A show like all shows you choose to watch are paid actors that make up a image to fit the screenplay the writers want. Once this moment of fame is over I am sure they will upgrade their living conditions and hopefully clean up their property because they do have a beautiful view. Do I enjoy watching the show? So much negativity! You really think those boys have "absolutely nothing to offer" to the women they meet? They have a beautiful family that ANY woman would LOVE to marry into. And their personalities are so different that any lady they find with half a brain is bound to be interested in one of them. I myself would consider trying if I were closer in age to some of them.
And you say they have "no education" either? They were homeschooled by their mother to a 12th grade level and have a much more VALUABLE education than most high school seniors or adults, for that matter. Do they seem like they have "no education" to you? You don't have to attend a brick and mortar school, or online public school, to get a high school diploma.

I just watched the episode when the bear got in for a 2nd time and just demolished the cabin. It was if s hurricane swept through and took no prisoners. I realize that it could all be scripted, because how stupid are you to not properly seal up the house if a bear had got in before? They need to install some strong shudders with heavy duty locks, its not rocket science. To top it off, they chase the bears with sticks. It's time to put a cap in that bear, then it won't happen again…Those cave people would eat the bear so it won't go to waste..

Instead of watching ABP tonight I just wasted an hour or more reading all these comments! For those of you who like to call the Browns "stupid" , you should re-read your own comments and critique the grammar and spelling. Some of you don't even appear to know the difference between there, they're, and their, or you're, your, and ur. You know, Forest Gump said "stupid is as stupid does". Making a ton of money for what they do on camera doesn't seem that "stupid" to me.

None of them have any gore tex type of clothing for the frequent rainy days. They are very well fed and mostly c lean except when hamming it up for the cameras in the bush. It's pathetically obvious they do not live in that house but just cynically use it for filming. The Jan 6 2016 episode was arguably the most pathetic lie yet. A small bear supposedly spent several hours going through all their personal stuff, trashing it like a demented vandal, ransacking a whole house upstairs and downstairs. But magically never touched the bible, deliberate appeal to the gullible religious types in that scene. Funny how the footage shows the bear going in the house, but not one shot of the bear prying off heavy planks nailed down over the window. Nor one shot of the bear trashing the whole house. Also not one shot of the bear trashing the tyre house … why would a bear waste so much effort doing this? A cynic might conclude the utterly contrived house trashing is a suitably emotional pretext to end the show or justify yet another winter away from the house they had so longingly waited all their lives to actually have. The show is a bad joke, the recent criminal case about their falsely claiming Alaskan state funds has not been mentioned in any show I have seen. The endless repetition of footage in most shows is at times infuriating, and very cynical padding. The supposed dramas are mostly trivial, and mostly very poorly scripted. Funny how shots of all the contrived big boat problems come from away from the boat, so there's obviosly a film crew boat very close by.

Haha seriously?! Thank you for a good laugh.

The comments here are hilarious. Bottom line, it's your choice to watch or not and to believe what's real or not. Personally I think about 50% of it is fake, but I choose to watch because I believe the remaining 50% is truly genuine and I actually like these people, even in spite of their faults.

Really, I agree with what some others have said…if you don't like the show for WHATEVER reason, then change the channel and spend your time watching something you like! You are just wasting your time by coming here or similar forums and complaining …. and you look like a fool because you are complaining about something you don't like but still must be watching in order to know what to complain about. That is ridiculous.
There are so many cable and network channels, online, and movie choices….geez, get a life.
Whether it is staged, scripted or real, or a combination, I don't care. I enjoy the activities, the personalities, the scenery….and I like Alaska: The Last Frontier too!!

Yes sure you are an idiot and have never owned a scope,I have a 30-06 rifle with a scope and the caps do not need to be removed to shoot, most of them are see through and have a slight tint on the glass soo if it is sunny out you can shoot with your caps on to ovoid blinding your self your a ass for trying to make the Browns look bad, they are good people at heart and have been blessed to have been given an opertunity to have their own show, also you need to realize a lot of the things they do may not seem right is because it is a act for tv just like every single other tv show you have ever seen! And yes Mabey they don't live their year around but that don't mean it's not still if nothing else a bad ass vacation spot to live your summers in am I not right? And if they act like they are broke and they have 500,000 in the bank good for them they are holding on to it for their children when they die that is how any smart good parent would live and remember if they didn't make up some parts of the show it would be Soo boring no one would watch it it's part of tv,what all you haters don't see and are jealous of and should give them props for is the point that they are a good hearted family with lots af family values and are close and loving family that have love for the bush or they would not be their, they have a good thing going for them as far as having their own tv show made up or not soo all you haters you need to over look the dumb shit and respect them for their loving hearts and love for the bush and if you can't see that you have obviously never had that in your life if you hate change the channel but me I can't wait to see next season and thank you brown family for all your effort and thank you for the show you all have made that my me and my five year old love to watch and can't wait to see more!

I refuse to watch the show and now with all the new evidence coming out I hope others will refuse to allow these jokers to entertain them.

This family is a bunch of idiots! I hope the state of Alaskan drops a hammer on them. I lived in Alaska for 12 years, 5 of it in Sitka which is close to where they claim to be "in the bush". Friends of mine in Hoonah say they spend MOST nights there and not in the cabin. I hope someone in the Coast Guard looks into whether or not the moron operating a commercial vessel has the correct license. I doubt it since he can't even dock it.

I was sad today when I accidentally came across all this info about them being fake and from Tx and Co. I mean, I figured they were getting paid from DC, but had no idea the whole show was faked. I feel let down. It's kind of a stupid show, watching a family whose parents are losers who don't work, work the shit out of their kids, dig from the dump, never had a house before the DC paid them, etc. But I enjoyed the show and wondered how they must relish getting paid for the first time! Anyhow, guess I'm a sucker who actually believed this crap!!! Still feel let down!! Shame on Discovery Channel!!! I will definately not feel like anything they say is real anymore. I always thought they were a truthful channel. STUPID ME

If you see a show on TV, those people are not poor. They get paid for the show per episode. If you are living in space, you may think it's real and they're poor as well. Look; don't be naive! They got boats, backhoes, trucks, cattles, all kinds of tools. Comon' people! The same way they money in Hollywood, you should understand that they make pretty good money as well. There's no doubt about it!

This show is purely for entertainment. If anything, it is more about what not to do,than for any kind of educational value. It's all about the drama; the dream, the struggles, the successes, the failures, the tragedies, the recoveries.
There is little doubt that at least SOME of the program is true and actual, but there is NO doubt that long-term success (let alone survival) would at best be unlikely, considering the obvious lack of bush experience/skills, and the overwhelming health issues. Were it not for the kids, Billy and/or Ami would already have failed, possibly fatally.
Please note that when there are any tasks that require real effort and skills, programs like these usually show the "star(s)" doing 15 seconds of work, which is ultimately completed by staff/contractors in a tenth of the time. The fairly obvious indicator is the sixty second recap after every commercial break, just to use up time.
Does this mean that the program is not worth watching? Heck no. lol. It is for entertainment just like any other drama. Who knows (except for those on the inside), maybe the whole residency scandal is just part of the drama.
Bottom line: Watch it if you are interested in this type of program, but don't be naive enough to believe that it is all true and factual.

Have been watching the show for a long time and have had my doubts from time to time about it's authenticity. In the "bear breaking into their home" episode it amazed me how badly those boards over the window were laid with big gaps from one to the other which of course the bear easily slipped his hand under to rip them completely off and climb into the home. This was at a time when they knew they had to leave their home unprotected but Gabe assuredly stated that his boarding up of the window was all that was needed. I also agree about their well taken care of clothing (neatly ironed, not torn, worn, or dirty). I wish them well but will view future episodes with suspicious eyes.

First of all THANK YOU to the Discovery Channel for documenting this family's lives and for sharing it with us!!! I'm sure the Discovery Channel offered the Brown's compensation to their family if they would let them film and document their lives. For people living in remote areas or off the grid, barter and they do whatever odds and ends jobs they can to earn what money they can. Because unfortunately, everyone needs some money to buy certain things. Look at the Amish. They sell goods on roadside stands to earn money for things they can't get on their farms…they sell foods, quilts, build sheds… AND, thank goodness the Discovery Crew was there to call for a helicopter to have Billy airlifted out when he had a seizure. Unfortunately he did not want to go to the hospital but they were there and willing to help him in anyway they could! I love this family and am thankful they are letting us experience their lives and their lifestyle with us!!!

To appreciate and respect Alaska, you don't necessarily have to be Alaskan born and bred – I'm not. Photographs and film cannot possibly portray the full measure of the reality. The current shows – i.e. the Bush monkeys, the last frontier nitwits, the building mooks – aside from the limited, what!?!? entertainment factor, are truly disturbing for the alarmingly blatant absence of respect – for just about anything you can name. Okay, I can almost buy the lame, stupid and dangerous situations that the uninitiated jump right into – almost. There is no excuse, however, for the jaw-dropping slovenliness, the in-your-face ignorance and overall ineptness of the others, the so-called long-timers. We are talking full on, guns blazing, 24-7, year after year after year of eye-searing exhibitionism and mind-numbing complacency – and not the good kind. After watching the various shows just a few times, you start to wonder – and not in a good way – what the heck is going on with Alaska? And what happened to the way I used to feel and think about it? Maybe it's a ruse by the Alaskan Tourist Bureau?

Wait a minute here…we all know from now decades of watching "reality TV" that most of it is scripted, that is what makes ratings such as The Jersey Shore…they were't even from New Jersey. Just because Billy may have written books does not mean they became New York Bestsellers!!! He may have made some money but because he has written books does not mean he is rich because of it. Also, many people are frugal even when they have money, most billionaires do not buy brand new cars but used cars and that is a noted fact. So even if his net worth is whats quoted, he has the right to go to a scrap yard and find stuff to repair things with. I find people are just so into trashing this family when the show is entertaining, its not like the Kardashians traveling all around, fighting all the time, the drama and yet everyone accepts the fact that they are the greatest when they are not famous for anything except for Kris Jenner being married to one of OJ's lawyers. Other than that they have not accomplished anything until they got a reality show! So this is the same thing, finally the family is getting out from being in debt and I am sure the IRS will take all monies due them. So everyone, sit back, relax and change the channel if this show has you all in an uproar.

Anonymous November 18 – You should have read Fladstrandskole's July 6th post again, and proof read your own comment for that matter, before chastising Anonymous for his/her September 28 post. There are indeed two spelling errors: how is not spelled "yeah" and does is not spelled "do"; therefore, with the spelling corrected the sentence reads "how stupid does discovery think we are". So, his sentence structure is spot on. On the other hand, his use of capitals and punctuation is at a grade one level.

The first letter in a sentence requires a capital, discovery is a name and should be capitalized, a question is punctuated with a "?" not a "!" and there should not be a space between the last word of a sentence and its punctuation.

Let's do a count: spelling errors (2), improper use of capitals (2) and misuse of punctuation (2) for a total of six error in a seven word sentence. I think Anonymous September 28 was quite correct in asking who the stupid one was.

As for you, mister I am qualified to proof read your comment, the phrase is "pot calling the kettle black" pot calling the kettle makes no sense nor does laughing out loud out. There are also two grammatical errors in your post, but I'll let you practice proof reading your own work.

Now this reminds me of the old idiom "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones".

Its simple they are modern day Grifters…if you don't know what that means…look it up. We are all drawn to many of these types of Alaskan reality shows because the scenic beauty is hard to turn away from and deep down I think we all have a hidden attraction to the idea of a kind of romanticism to live a life that we each can only dream of!

Fake or not it is all good clean fun. If I would question anything is the relation ship of family members. Some have questioned the apparent accent that can be detected among some of the children. Bear for example has more than once ended a sentence with "eh" obviously Canadian. In some cases there is no Brown family resemblance among some of the children so some may be the result of another marriage.

TV is make believe folks. Even the news channels can be make believe at times. The one thing the bush people have going for them is the display of family values. Not a bad show to have your kids watch rather than the filth they are exposed to.

The Comments on this page clearly shows why this show is so popular, and the people that are making the statements defending these people are as amusing as the show itself is. Almost every person that is defending these people or this show, starts out in their statement that, 1. I don't know whether the show is real or not, but…. 2.I live in the wilderness in (some other state) and in the exact same environment, and I can tell everyone that this show and every part of it is exactly true and 100% real… 3.I don't know if they are getting paid or not, and if they aren't they should be… 4.If they. Have $500000.00 dollars why don't they get their teeth fixed…. 5. You have all these haters, and I can tell You that not one of these people that are hating on The Browns know what they are talking about, they weren't there so they don't know…6. ECT..ECT..ECT.. I watch the show occasionally and when I watch it I enjoy it for the humor, and I can tell everyone of the people who are defending the show and the Browns that the show is NOT REAL, and the BROWNS ABSOLUTELY are not Bush People, or Fisherman. I am 56 years old, have lived on the water my whole life, I have supplemented my income for 40 years on the water fishing and shrimping almost my entire life, and have owned my own boat for 46 of the 56 years that I have been alive, with my first boat being 12 ft. And my largest boat 56ft. I have been an avid Hunter since I was 10 years old, killing my first Buck in 1970, and have bagged my limit of bucks every year for the last 31 years except for last year, only killing 2, because I had back surgery January 4, 2016, which is at the beginning of the second part of Our deer season, which is generally the most productive part of our season. I also hold a Bachlors Degree, and a Masters Degree in Industriai Vocational Education. And taught all phases of welding, and Machine Shop, for 20 Years at the College level. I only state these facts to show why I feel that I am qualified to see clearly, and to judge these people in the areas of this show, on their knowledge and ability, I also want to make it clear to all of those people that have made the statements that they would love to one day follow their dreams and live just like the Browns do off of the land, that if You try to follow your dreams and do as the Browns, do in Alaska, You and Your family, or those that choose to follow You would be found dead, after the very first winter thaw. If You do not believe Me. Please choose any, and all of the REAL Alaskan People, that You encounter at the begging of Your first winter encounter in Alaska, and ask them how they think You will fair, following the Browns Game Plans, and make Your decisions based on what they tell You. If You watch as these people actually accomplish a simple task, such as when the Daughter killed a deer, how Her and Her brothers actions were, it is quite clear at the level of each ones excitement, that this was not a common acurance, and that is a claim that they make, that they have maintained their lifestyle by living off of the land. My point is they would have to be killing 15-20 deer every Year to maintain the family, and after killing that many Deer each Year, they would not be as excited as they ALL were when She killed the deer during the episode on TV. My next point is that it is very easy to see the level of confusion, and the problems that they encounter on simple task, that should be second nature to ANYONE, that has been doing it as long as they claim to have been doing these things.

I think '' Fladstrandskole '' comment sounded like YODA … lol … I also love the Brown family, and have wondered about their clothing and the girls makeup & jewelry … and where they bathe … But I really just enjoy the families interaction the most…. Whether it's Real or Fake , doesn't bother me. It's a lovely show. Better than watching the news , and the dramas of everyday life… I hope they're on for as long as possible…..

Life Below Zero is somewhat fake also. I was looking in Google Earth trying to find where they lived. I don't watch it that much because of my work so I don't know names. But on Google Earth there is some that live near a town. The lady that left her husband on the far east of Alaska can almost spit on the town where they lived. I think that is he reason why there not on anymore because of the two not getting along. And the one that has the little white house on the lake went to town in a brand new truck. So he doesn't actually live there ether. They try to make you think that is how they live in Alaska. Another thing that I noticed was the lady that lives in Kavic said that her place is 200 miles away from another human being. I looked on Google Earth and it is 200 miles form the northern most part of Alaska to Fairbanks. Your going to tell me that there is no one in between there and Fairbanks. The other people on the show seems that is how they really live but the others, not so. The reason I watch all them shows is because Alaska is a beautiful state but that is really the only reason.

Love the show, love the guys. Can't wait to see what happens with the girls. Its a "SHOW". If you don't like it, don't watch it I'm sure you get other channels. When they return it would be nice to see them elaborate about living in the city, what jobs the guys took, did anyone meet any girls. It seems that most who do reality TV have some kind of run in with the law. Can't wait for the new season to start.

I have also been wondering why we have not gotten to really SEE the Browns living in the bush during colder–and extremely cold–conditions. They are so inept at making "preparations" for living in the bush that one must seriously question how they would survive during the brutally cold months. Let's see the nine of them SNOWED IN and living in a one-room cabin for many consecutive days… or in the cabin when that (trained) bear breaks in… or when their water is frozen and they run out of wood to burn because conditions are more extreme than anticipated… or they lose access to their underground food storage for one reason or another.. or what clothes they HAVE to wear even indoors to try to stay warm — and WHERE all these bulky clothes for a family of nine are stored in that one room cabin… or….. on and on and on. Show us them actually LIVING in the bush!

Just started watching, a couple of months ago. Just started looking into their true story. It seems you either like them or not. So far my research comes up with too many areas that do not add up. I have no ax to grind just started wondering why they look like they do not know the basics of living in the wild. Such as why would you walk around in the rain with your rifle barrel pointing up ? Why would you not make noise to scare away the bears like all are taught to do ? Why was Billy arrested for horse theft back in Texas ? Why does the state of Alaska believe they live in Colorado and Texas most of the year ? And the list goes on. They are amusing to watch for the simple lack of outdoor knowledge they posses.

OK, hum…ya I cant take handle the teeth. Please get them fixed for them. Makes me sad that they have such terrible teeth. I think that they are all descent looking, teeth would really up their game. I feel sorry for the girls. The youngest girl looks board embarrassed and looks sad most of the time, and she is beautiful. Give her a chance family. I mean if this life has any truth to it she deserves a chance. After all the kids never had a choice on how they wanted or want to live. BILLY PUTS ALOT OF PRESSURE ON GIS KIDS. Just because dad and mom want to struggle everday shouldn't mean the kids should. Ok so the boys seem socially awkward to say the least. Noah thinks he is a dandy, Bam is just a jerk. Matt is just silly.Gabe has a big heart. Mom looks like she has been threw hell trying to convince herself and everyone that there lives are so great living in squalor. I thunk that they are all in denile. So if its real this is my view. Snow bird is just a bad ass chick. The girls look so lost in thier thoughts. Im so confused if there is any truth to this show, and the lifestyle they deam so free and great, with all the hardship and struggles and blunders. I have no words but sad. If its fake well sad also describes it. Billy dont you want more for them? Maybe as socially awkward they all are it is best to hide in the wet cold dangerous bush. I would love to give them all a professional make over, and hope they felt great about themselves for at least a day. GET THE TEETH FIXED !!

I think this article blows alot of this out of proportion if you think about it yes they get payed for the show but the over head to live even a simple life like thay is very expensive all materials in Alaska are 4x the price as they are in the lower 48. The gas to run their generator and boat is extremely high and then all resent legal and medical bills they do the odd jobs to help out people and have a little extra change and bartering is a way of life up there heck it's easier than buying stuff up there. And the whole thing about the impresses from movies he's never seen if the writer of this article actually watched the show would see them say many times they use to have a very small tv that was given to them and would barter for movies and watch them since they do have a generator and have electrity. I hate when people write articles and don't actually watch the show or anything. And the clothes thing them not being dirty for them being in the woods for weeks! Come on they do wash their clothes as to the invention they created last season to help wash them. And yes they likely know what computers are and cell phones and know how to use them now if you actually read and see interviews of them they are saying they didnt grow up wirh them and are having to learn how to use them as adults i mean no matter what if your being on a tv show yli will learn what those are just from the production crew being around These people live a simple life and wanna be away from alot of people their not claiming to be mogley from the jungle book who never messes with society they just do not want to live in town or around alot of people they don't say they don't like the nicer things are amenities as we in "normal" society can't live with out ie: indoor bathroom they just wanna gb o about doing their way they are probly the only people in the United states that won't be paying on their home 90% of their adult life he'll my grandfather was able to build his house in the lower 48 in 1969 and only payed on it for 4 years because he did 90%of the work and now days there's absolutely no way you can do that so I commend them on being able to do and they boys living in shacks that is their choice their quirky and those shacks fit their personality and as they have said before they are temporary they all plan to build house just like their parents on that land

I love this show. I was immediately intrigued and entertained, but of course I saw the holes in the story. I still watch and enjoy it. I think Ami is the most intelligent and resourceful. I think the boys are handsome and the girls are cute. I do wonder that Billy is a little messed up from losing his parents and possibly sucked Ami in to an almost cult-ish way of life. Their obsession with "splitting up the family" for even a day and excessive worry seem a little irrational. It's a bit much. They obviously go to the dump quite a bit. Calm down! LOL…
All that being said, the boys, though smart and hard-working, do seem to lack skill and knowledge on how to do a lot of things. A lot of times they seem to be winging it.
It's too bad their blunders have become the entertaining part. I'd like to see how bush people do it right.

Entertaining show and I realize it's not fully real. My problem is that, like most reality shows, after 2-3-4 seasons, they start doing silly stuff that you just know is staged. A barrel bull ride? Really, that one of the priorities for Brownstown?

Remember American Choppers? Great show because it was real, that is, until they started spending half the time driving cars into the lake, or taking a sledgehammer to cars.

Love some of the points brought up but still people remember it is based off of memoirs so some things get mixed up through tge decades reflecting back on incidents from when they first got there. Silly to process some but really cant have a flashback like THAT lol. then they work in new current real stuff like amiees family n the court n health stuff. Part of the agreement signed with discovery. At the time not a lot of money so not thought through best. Most would jump at a deal. So trouble from before when he was promoting the book. Then discovery made offer and even changed formula few times. Something like, From documentary to movie to realityish. And still the money is not all liquid yet. Under contract to keep quiet or be sued n loose all. I like looking for the little nods i think they slip in to show its not really happening in the first seasons. Now i think since its more known thats lessened but fed up glances and eye rolls have increased. Basic psychology makes it more fun lol.funny for all the bitchin those know andd mustv watched aa lot. Oh. N all work no play, so why not a bull ride. I spent a lot of time in West Virginia Outback and they make a point of balancing all the work they do you have to have a fun time. So it is not ridiculous at all. Synonym for previous post comments about how long the oldest and youngest boys attitudes are. Matt is a bit too ridiculous. I figure you might be gay for real. going to mess up the grandbabies there a bit LOL but it's all good I think it would be great too explore that more. If it is true? Not sure but I was told by reliable sources that I have a great day…. And then as far as I know. I really did like him so much more in the beginning. He went for my favorite to my least. Sadly I do not think it is part of the show Kama that holier-than-thou attitude. Ban really grew on me. Especially after seeing his videos, photos and poems. Before the deal of course didn't. He is truly talented and I really wish to see more from him soon when the gag order comes off. Watch him soar! That's all for now 🙂

How is the Brown family meeting their obligation when it comes to Obama-care? If they are paying for health care with fish, it stands to reason they don't have the minimal health care coverage required now by law. Are the Brown's being penalized on their taxes? They clearly are making an income based on the brand new Lincoln welder and other items noticed on various episodes.

I love the Browns, they show you how a family should be like, I come from a very large family and none of us are close. I have brothers and sisters I haven't talk to in years, yes some things are fake but Billies parents and sister were killed in the plane crash and the rest of his family cheated him out of inharentance as he was 16, he went through hell but he and Ami have thought the children love and respect what the kids do as adults is on them not Billie and Ami. I watch the show and will until the last episode. I am a Brown and how they live is their business but the reality of the show is how they stay together as a family and that's what count's.

I absolutely love the Brown family. Their lives touch me to the marrow, they make me feel happy that good people still exist in this sometimes cruel world. I laugh with them and cry with them. They're a good decent family with decent morals. Their word means something to them. Their name stands for something to them. You can be home-schooled and learn just as much, if not more, than someone going to a public or regular school. You can actually learn from books. People in certain places get married and have children at younger ages. There are some people in this world who deem having a family just as worthy as a college education. There are even some who think love and family are worth more than material possessions. To those of you who are picking the Browns and their show apart, shame on you. Jealousy is not attractive and neither is nitpicking. In the world we live in today, the Browns are such a treasure. They're a much needed breath of fresh air. Peggy gameswizard@aol.com

In regards to Billy's first book, "One Wave at a Time", it's now going for $1400 New. Hoorah for Billy if he is getting the majority of this money, but think not. Bookstores bought up the books when they started increasing in value. I say, he wrote it, he should make the most money on the books, which is why they are probably not selling the books on the website. Why sale the book for $15, when they are going elsewhere for more money, they are rethinking their strategy.

I don't know how much of the story is true and how much is staged (which it certainly is to some extent), but find it entertaining and interesting.

I think the Browns would fix the girls teeth, if they had the money.

You make the mistake of equating their unauthenticity with your actual chosen lifestyle. The fact that they are such grubby frauds shouldn't reflect badly on people who live that lifestyle honestly but it probably will for some.
My most serious complaint about the show (one of many) is how they have disenfranchised their children. They have raised a family of misfits who believe they have raised a genius (Noah compares himself to DaVinci and dresses and speaks with pathological affectation, Bear embarrasses himself with his ludicrous howling and running and jumping (my kids did that but they were kids, after all. They grew up, then Bam, the forever negative, displays pathological stubbornness and refers to himself as the leader of the 'wolf pack" (don't even go there!!!) when Billy goes to the great mountain in the sky (he'll probably lose his way). Finally, how is it that the 'clan' all speak with distinctly different accents?
If the book writing doesn't work out, I'm sure there are any number of traveling freak shows that would hire them.

I kept thinking it was/is odd when (they) show them hunting with very expensive rifles; show them using Leica or Nikon binoculars, show the using DeWalt power tools, wearing designer sunglasses, etc., etc. Also the producer's seem to be "searching" for substance for the newer shows. Their cabin has been built (after a questionable departure from their prior home). We've seen them hunt. We've seen them on the boat.Ande we've seen them create numerous items and structures on their land.It would appear that we have seen what there is to be seen and the show has pretty much run the gambit.Dont get me wrong.I enjoyed the show at first. It's just that there is little else to be seen here…

I totally agree!! I wish that I had the courage to try this way of life when I was first married (36 yrs. ago) It would have been a wonderful experience, (succeed or fail) A memory to cherish. The Browns are my window into Alaska, and it's beautiful country, awesome people, forests, Lakes & Waterways. The show not only portrays The Brown's and their way of life, it also takes you to smaller villages (that you would never have heard of.) And shows you how other Alaskans families make their mark in the world. Thousands of people all across Alaska, live off the land and I for one am jealous. How many of you people writing all these negative things, wake up every morning with so much stress in your day ahead, that you wish you could just crawl in a hole and ,cover yourself over where no one will bother you. Wishing the stress would just disappear like a puff of smoke into the air. (At least in Alaska it would be clean air.) How many of you that live from pay to pay wish that your little corner of the world had a Barter System? That people stood by and respected. Your word was your hand shake.. Would'nt it be nice to have a helping hand when you needed it, knowing that you weren't going to have to put out any cash for their kindness. It sounds like a wonderful way of life, and I hope that people can take some knowledge and maybe some respect away from this awesome show and use it in their daily lives. If we all lent a helping hand to our fellow man(pay it forward) and knew that we could count on a Barter System like they do in Alaska and on the show ABP, Living by the phrase "My Word Is My Bound" what a wonderful, stress free, happier people we would all be.
P.S. My favorite personality on the show would have to be "Gabe"….Always the go to guy for heavy lifting and hauling. They never made men look like that when I was 24. LOL *) Only in Alaska eh!!!!
Thanks for allowing me to voice my opinion about Alaskan Bush People, and their way of life..

I myself love the show. I think it is a family show, you don't see killing, gun violence or kids being mistreated. The show may not be real but it is nice to sit down and watch a family having each other's backs.Id rather watch this than to watch a child laying in the street with his family looking over him.so the ones that don't like it don't watch, you are probably the one that like watching the killings

    I know right.
This show is hysterical. I enjoy watching it. Of course its scripted, but who cares, its funny.
I laugh so much at the boys. They have to live in the bush, because no girl in the lower states is going to live in a tree, wash in a creek, or howl to communicate.
Enjoy people. Dont hate. Its for entertainment.

Yea it's funny how people are experts specially when they never seen Alaska except on a map.
I lived in Alaska 11 years and southeast Alaska is harsh place people say they should know the weather yea that weather can change in hours very experienced pilots have died because of weather change.
As for it being fake what a joke fake is the 2 in Hookah who say they stay in town they are the town trouble makers. Romers are just that Romers.
Bartering in Alaska is the norm even if you have money sometimes just conversation and people who move up there 90 percent move back to the states within a year because it is so harsh so unless you have lived up there any length of time shut up you make yourself sound like an ass.

LMBO I have lived in Texas and I lived in Alaska 11 years of my life and that chainsaw and so called latter is called a portable saw mill their not chip and people that own them use then to make a living and they are not going to haul them all over the country just to cut logs it takes time to set the gigs and if you set then up and take them down destroys the threads so yes people take their logs to the saw no matter how far, all you Ana Sayers why don't you go up to southeast Alaska and stay there months I would love to see you do it all I have seen move up there 90 percent move back to the states within a year.
Land is not cheap either nor is the food, I have covered almost all of Alaska and you always barter no matter if you have money or not I had money but battered for meat, snowmobiles and even mechanic work and the two in Hookah saying it's all rack are the town trouble makers.
If you have never lived in Alaska any lenth of time have no business running your mouth about something you no nothing about, I would be up there but my Parkinson's keeps me from doing so. So unless you really know what your talking about shut up and get a life.

wednesday 10th august 2016… England uk . I watch the show on automatic series link & record so that i never miss it…I think it takes some doing living that lifestyle.. I would like to pick up on some comments on here meanwhile…lets go back to the beginning…1/.. didnt cave men write stories on thier walls in picture form? …and how on earth did they ever manage to survive this planet without having to go to school to be taught that or manage to cloth & feed themselves or find food to eat?? ..im guessing that all fell from the sky?? lol…no its called they had a brain that had ideas and thoughts that they put to use and we all have the natural ability to survive in whatever surroundings we are in! So big up to the brown family and all the alaskan bush people. I love the show and i love thier lifestyle ..courageous and clever. One day when things do go terribly wrong on this planet..and that is the only way left to live…we all know who will be able to survive and who wouldnt. much love xxx

middle age woman here. Us haters who watch… hate to be lied to…and it offends our rationalities. Often told to get a life. Its more about the defenders of the show who have some sort of weird fantacies about these men….who need to get a life. Look at the genders and even age groups of theses women. Friday nights….play with your grandchilden or talk with your husband/boyfriend…go out with the girls. The Browns had nothing to market but a book and still has not got into smart marketing. Duck Dynasty, same type of show…but smarter players. Get a life women….Bam Bam isn't going to marry you. Pick up a Harliquin romance novel.

There were to many red flags for me. The first was they were living on government land for over 20 yrs & no one knew they were there. I seldom saw snow: They hunted for meat (not very good hunters from what I saw) what happened to vegies & dairy. You can"t live on meat alone. To many different accents. Jewelry looked like it was professionally made. Now I found out the island they were on was a lease by the channel. Almost all have facebook, media accounts. Please give me a break. I don't believe any of the live in the bush but in town when not filming & in bad weather.

I love watching the show. It's entertaining. Sometimes I wish we, here at my house, were as connected as they are to each other. Wether its real or not. They seem to be connected. One thing I do wonder is….. How are they so healthy looking? Eating off the fat of the land, I would think their diet would be much leaner than most of ours. Yet, their physique proves different. They look "Carb Fed & Very Healthy". Any way I love the show and I will keep watching.

They are going hungry? How many bears are there on that island? They aren't true independents. All the stuff they have guns, knives cloths that are better than some families who hold a real job. So they had to have money before the show started or Discovery gave them a sign on bonus. An accents? No it sounds like one of the children may have had a speech impediment probably caused for ear infections or something and the younger picked up on their speech maybe. My Niece got lots of ear infections causing her to have a speech impediment similar to some of these because she had trouble hearing and each child younger than her had the same thing but the oldest didn't. But there is no accents other than being from the south. If the children were born in Alaska how are they not residents? And if they live there now how are the not residents?

I watch this show with my family in Italy and we really like it. No matter fake or real, is a something I look forward to seeing every evening. Not nice thou to read so many nasty comments. World will be such a better place if we will stop to be so hard on each other and negative. The Browns seem truer than most of the people I know and that's refreshing. I don't know anyone willing to go in such a remote place and work so hard for money ( if DC is paying them) so hat off to them getting to earn honest money! People stop being so negative for nothing! DC and the Browns, I wish you all the best and keep going like this entertaining me and my family.

I watch this show for one reason. "It's Entertaining" That is the only reason I would ever watch any television, even the so called "news networks". Maybe a long time ago you could try to believe what you saw. Even the category their show is in is a misnomer "Reality TV" The only reality on television is that actors get paid to act, say, or do something that you will believe in the end is entertaining. It's just like the commercials on TV. If what they claimed was the Gospel we would all be in great health, all rich, and all look like moviestars.

    1. Why don’t they shoot bears if they are a problem ? Lots of meat ! vs. deer?

    2. As seen on “Railroad Alaska” placing spikes to Beer Proof the windows and doors, why if they are so savvy don’t they protect themselves ?

    3. For kids who ” grew up on boats ” why don’t they know how to maneuver when docking ?

It’s called an inverter. It can be connected to a 12v battery to change the power flow to 110 ac power. Then one could plug things such as a tv into this power source to operate.

It’s a reality show more than a docu-drama. We know (or should know) they are paid actors. It’s entertainment. It’s ALL scripted. I think we are just a bit jealous we aren’t making the money they are. Good for them. They found a niche that suckers us media starved Americans. Kinda like watching WWF. Now you watch the Kilchers, so do I, but not as a replacement, I watch both shows with the same amount of enjoyment , equally from both. Lets not forget they are both tv reality shows, is one more honest than the other. It’s tv, it;s what your mind precieves, free your mind. Never forget that tv does it’s best to provide for you a program you may or may not enjoy, you have to take it at face value, breaking a program down to it’s scrip level, and interjecting personal negitivity only makes you sound like. when it comes to the tv experance you don’t really understand.I also love to watch, Gold rush, Pit Bulls & Prollies, Moonshiners, Street Outlaws, Fast & loud, Treasurquest, River Monster, Misfit Gurage, Welddomup, etc., and many more, that have come and gone. Their are many more reality shows, I only mentioned the ones I like and watch, no negative though’s about the ones I don’t watch.

The photo above is from around the time they were going on a book signing tour.I’m sure you would wash the bush out of you where possible, The show is about living in the bush just because you have money doesn’t mean you cant choose to go out and live off the land ,as for Gabriel’s impressions of Sean Connery they had a few of his films as kids which were repeatedly watched on the video and tv they watched using a generator to generate electric. They never said they lived a hermetic lifestyle or a Mormon kind of lifestyle they merely lived out in the bush where things were more beautiful peaceful and people barter for goods as other goods are sometimes more useful than money . What goods is a million dollars if your starving to death in the middle of an alaskan winter if it meant the difference between life and death you would swap your million dollars for a 50 dollar horse given the choice to get back to town or freeze to death with your million only for the horse owner to ” aquire” it over your dead body,As for the Alaskan dividend i know nothing about this but i would think it is equally payable to all and not means tested and only for the poor it is a dividend because the people of Alaska own the natural resources and get their share when its sold, some of the monies they got may have bought the lands which they lived on and the tools and equiptment they needed to survive in the bush , money is useless out there even a person buying brand new clothes would only find them wrecked in no time

I enjoy the show. I have only one issue and it is with the “MINOR” girls teeth. Teeth are not just for aesthetics, tooth decay can literally kill you if not taken care of and Bird’s front tooth looks very sharp I am surprised she doesn’t cut her tongue. If Ami got her fixed finally why wouldn’t you take care of your MINOR child’s teeth? Keep in mind this doesn’t have anything to do with real or fake, you can “see” that their teeth are rotting or rotten. Sorry, but it creeps me out health wise!

Oh by the way Rains teeth are not rotten nor do they have any gum disease or decay. She has a broken front tooth which she broke while learning to shoot a high power rifle at 13 and she’s now an adult and has more than enough cash to get it fixed IF SHE WANTED to which she doesn’t. She likes it just the way she is and intends to stay true to herself no matter what other say about it. As for Ami her teeth got in the condition not from lack of money but a bone disease that attacks her entire body and a major fear of a dentist which many other people also have. All the other children also have strong decay free teeth that they see a dentist yearly but don’t want an orthodontist to make them fakely straight and perfect to other people cause they like themselves as they are. I was raised on a homestead, home schooled went away to college got my degree, traveled the world and came back to the homestead, married, raised a family myself and now have grandchildren and I’d never think of leaving my homestead. I was raised with seven brothers and a sister, you call the brown CHILDREN social inapt, when the truth is stuff happens in real life expecially stupid stuff, see the browns have something that modern city kids lost long ago. A wonderful love of the land, and a healthy sense of humor and the know how and will to survive on this great earth without being mindless consumers. So they don’t waste their time watching tv 80 hours a week or eating processed fake food. So they keep clean and bath regularly even if it’s soap and a cold running steam. They cut each other’s hair and don’t bother with trying to impress anyone. You also need to remember they live in southern Alaska which has a much milder winters than further north. They are a boat ride to a good size town, with laundry and even electricity. They are only as isolated as they choose to be. A and it’s totally green to barter with other people for useful things they need without spending money for new junk a used window that is in great shape is just as good as a high-priced new one. As anyone that wishes to leave a smaller footprint on this earth it just makes good common sense so if you’re getting paid and don’t need to spend it ,it accumulates and is available for when you really need something that isn’t available used to reuse and repurpose. It doesn’t matter how much you make the trick is how much of it do you get to keep? And living well while doing so.
I’m someone who knows the browns for over thirty years now and also know when they stop enjoying what they show the world about them, they will simple make the cameras go away and get on with their life, always being true to themselves and what they believe it.
    So More everyone.

    Hey man,
Its a TV show. It’s for entertainment. Probably half reality. Big deal! Real life is drama. I like watching it even though it may not be total reality. I like the story and the locations where the show is filmed. You wanna see a good show. How bout the Bennetts. We moved from the mean streets of Southern Ca. to Prospect Oregon. Me and my wife raised 13 children. We got to Oregon via New Orleans Louisiana. trekked across the US like modern day pioneers. You wouldn’t believe what we’ve been through. We have 30 grandchildren with more on the way. My wife stayed home and took care of kids while I busted my ass being a tile setter mostly. I can install any floor covering known to mankind and do it well. Our family would have been a very entertaining show.
Enjoy the Browns they have a nice family with good values. I could easily be friends with the whole clan. No sense in negative comments. Being positive makes for happiness. Peace Out

And I agree with you Richard Bennett! WELL SAID! I cringe when I read some of these posts here bashing the Brown clan!
I can’t figure out why folks watch this show only to try to rip it apart! I posted my own post cause my wife and kids and myself all enjoy the show! Hard working, each of them, and your story Richard, sure sounds like it could be a really good show, too!
What it sounds like in the bashing posts is that some of the so called viewers are jealous, maybe some are from that area who knows and who cares! To judge a show in negative terms makes no sense. My oldest son and I have fun TOGETHER trying to re-create ideas the Browns have shown us. I’m not judging but believe these Brown kids ( and Billy and Ami ) DO know how to hunt, dress deer, and they fish, to provide for each other. That’s something my boys and I pride ourselves on doing. Thank you for your positive post! I quit reading all the naysayers posts.
Looking forward to the new season of Alaskan Bush People! ( and on of these days maybe a Bennett Reality show, too ) .

This family is so pleasant to watch. There are no “f” words which makes my skin hurt to hear it said. My sons apologize if they let that word slip but my husband who faithfully goes to church lets it ” slip” all the time with no apology, and I ask him to not use it. These male family members never disrespect their mother or sisters. The girls are very nice and pleasant to watch and listen to. If you can’t watch a clean and entertaining show, try turning the channel to a dirty channel that you usually watch. Leave them alone because a lot of people enjoy their freshness and intelligence.

Noah is not as smart as he thinks he is. He is doing grade school science. No one could be as stupid as they are. Noah did not even know the difference between a chipmunk and a squirrel and they are suppose to live in the woods. Are they even really related? If they got all that money for a book why would they take money from Alaska? Their are people that really need the money. I think the show is a scam. He compares himself with really intelligent people like Franklin and Tesla and he has the handwriting of a two year old. The rest of the family are good actors. They had me fooled for a little bit. Maybe one day I’ll be as smart as Noah Brown, haha!

I enjoy Alaskan Bush People showing how to live off of the land. Most of us wouldn’t last a day in that environment. Sure they’re being filmed and they get compensated for invading their privacy and they should. Discovery is making a few dollars off of the show $$$. Fact is, its good clean viewing and if you enjoy it, watch it. If they live in an area that issues a stipend, good for them. This family chose to live here. I hope that the boys all find a lady to share their lives as with as well as the girls and if they chose to leave the Bush, then the show will go on or it won’t. I feel as if most of the boys will live in Browntown with their spouses.

Myself, my family and friends ( ages: six to ninety-two ) are all looking forward to many seasons of Alaskan Bush People. We’ve all watched since it first aired on Discovery Channel.
My comments are to Discovery Channel, the film crew, and to the Brown family: THANK YOU!
‘Discovering’ the Brown family, who’ve shown compassion to one another, and to others, in each episode each season, is an enjoyable ( breath of fresh air )! hour of television weekly.
As a 50+ yr. old viewer, voted to be the’ spokesperson’ here for my loved ones who also enjoy the family programming offered, we thank Discovery for airing such an outstanding program! And a big thank you to the film crew(s) who’ve filmed the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness, providing us with breath-taking scenery.
Thank you for introducing us to a loving American family with admirable values.
And most of all Thank You to the Brown family for allowing us to continue to get to ‘know you’ by sharing your lives with us. It’s been OUR pleasure!
A show with strong family values to enjoy, when countless other networks air shows many of us feel uncomfortable watching. So we say: Great Job!
Best of luck to ‘The Wolf Pack ‘ in all your endeavors. We appreciate you and your willingness to be real and hope to enjoy your company in many more episodes in the future.
Thanks for welcoming us into your family!

I agree! The Brown family are not actors, they are real human beings! My wife, my kids and I watch AND enjoy this show together ( can’t say that about many shows on t.v. today)! We’re often laughing
( not AT but WITH the Browns and their ‘Brown Luck” ) and crying a little ( when the boat sank, when they are so cold, too ) My kids and me don’t a hoot about their finances !
Smart & creative ideas they work together to make their ideas become reality. It’s a great message to all of us viewers. Especially my 4 kids ( ages 7 to 16 ) .
Thank you ‘Vonda’ for your post! You took the words right outta my mouth. A great family show, no cursing, no nudity, no fighting but a real family just living a different lifestyle. THEIR lifestyle!
My family and I look forward to this show! We enjoy the Browns, each has a good personality, and seems they sure care about each other, too!
More Power to ‘The Wolf Pack’ .
We hope Discovery airs this show for a long time!
To any naysayers or ‘haters’, why watch if ya don’t like it? T.V. has LOTS of channels so if ya don’t care for ABP turn the channel! It’s easy. No Need to bash people IMHO! And who the heck has the right to JUDGE their clothes, teeth or anything else?!? It’s easy to see they are hardworking folks! So why bash the show?
I got on this site to see about Billy’s book, I don’t give a hoot what these folks earn or don’t earn for this show. Can you all imagine having a film crew with you every day? Me either! I’d hope Discovery would pay me! haha SO WHAT?
Good luck to the Brown Clan and we will keep watching, too!
